Saving html doc on Windows 8? Help!

Hi there,

I am very new to code and just working my way through the first few steps.

Does anyone else use Windows 8? It won't give me the option to "save as" & then "all files" as instructed by the tutorial, my options are: plain text, rich text etc etc. I've tried a variety of these but all of them open in the browser as code, not as a website page.

Does anyone know what format to save code on in Windows 8 so that it will open as a web page?

use Note Pad to type your html code on. When you are ready to save it on File in the upper left corner. When clicking on File choose (click on) Save As from dropped down menu. A window will open and on the bottom you will see 2 lines one above the other, the upper line you will see File name:----- that where you put the name of the file (what ever you want to call it),on the lower line you will see Save as type: Text Documents(*.txt) here is where you need to click on the words Text Documents (*.txt) and when clicking on it you will see a dropped menu with the All Files click on All Files and click save. That is it , good luck.

Dear newbie3,

I would recommend, and I do this for all my programming associates, to use Notepad++ as a beginner programmer or web-developer. You can find this program here: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ . Once downloaded, at the top of the program there is a Language tab. Click this and proceed down to H where HTML will be an option. If you follow these instructions, when you save the file it will save it as a HTML file. (you can follow this procedure to obtain CSS, PHP, ASP, and JS the same way). I hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your advice, notepad ++ seems to have done the trick as is now opening properly!

Use notepad and paste the code then save. After that change the file name extension(.txt) in .html or .php. You can also used apps for coding, try sublime. Need to find furniture go to https://sites.google.com/view/ashleyfurniture-pc.
